What is TRSAC? And what is demoscene? If you're new to the demoscene and uncertain what this event is about, here is an attempt at explaining it briefly. The "scene" or "demoscene" is a global, creative subculture. The "point" of this subculture (if you can even say there is a point) is to push the envelope and be creative: make music, draw pictures, program a computer to do the incredible, create short films, or be creative in some other way, using digital media - the point is to do cool stuff, basically. Members of this subculture are usually called sceners or demosceners. The origin of the demoscene lies in the pirated games scene - the groups that "cracked" games (removed the copy protection and sometimes added cheats/trainers) would usually add a small crack-intro (cracktro) to the games, to display their skills and their superiority over competing cracker groups. A cracktro would typically contain a programmed effect, display the logo of the cracker group, and play a piece of music. Quite often they also contained greetings and communications to other groups. Cracktros became bigger and better over time, and started featuring more elaborate effects, music and artwork, and eventually became an entire genre to themselves, with no connection to piracy. These new 'non-crack' intros evolved into several genres: "demos" (an abbreviation of 'demonstration', i.e. a show of superiority over competing demo groups) and "intros", of which there are several different kinds, but which are usually size-restricted in some way (typically either 4kb or 64kb), and also other things such as wild demos, animations, and so on. So what is TRSAC? It is a demo party - a gathering of demosceners, with competitions in various disciplines (graphics, music, demos, intros and more). Read more about the demoscene at Wikipedia How can I participate? Are you a musician? Are you a graphic artist? Do you do digital arts of some type? Are you a programmer? Do you do cool animations? Are you in some way creative, using a computer? If the answer is yes, you'll most likely enjoy TRSAC a great deal and be able to compete in one of our compos. The demoscene is a close-knit community of creative individuals, so demo parties like TRSAC are usually great fun and a great chance to meet new people, and to gather some inspiration. We eagerly embrace new talent / new people. Many of the people who attend a demo party have been sceners for years and years, often stretching back to the Amiga days, the Commodore 64, or even older machines. |
